Appointments

A full appointment system operates for Brotton. Appointments with the doctor, nurse practitioner or practice nurse can be made by telephone or by calling in person to Brotton Surgery. Our receptionists have completed Care Navigator training to ensure they have the additional skills to signpost patients and ensure they are allocated the correct appointment. We’ve found sometimes patients request to see a GP when the GP isn’t really the best person to see. Patients could be seen and treated quicker by a nurse or a physiotherapist for example and in some cases, the GP practice might not be the right place at all for the query. That's where 'active signposting' or care navigation as we call it comes in and, therefore, our receptionists will ask why you need an appointment - to help you get the right service faster.

On weekdays, patients with a non-urgent request should normally be able to consult a doctor or nurse within 48 hours. Patients wishing to see a specific doctor may have to wait a few days depending on duty roster, holidays etc.

Urgent appointments are available to book on the day to enable you to be seen when the problem arises. There are a limited number of these appointments and these are booked by ringing at 8.00am.

Whilst in the consultation, please do not take up more than your allotted time, as this will cause delays for subsequent patients. Waiting time at reception will be kept to a minimum and patients will be advised of any unavoidable delays to their booked appointment time.

As we are a training Practice you may be offered an appointment with a GP Registrar. A GP Registrar is a fully qualified Doctor who work in Practices under the mentorship and supervision of the GPs for 6 or 12 months.

Appointments can be made for the Nurse Practitioner in advance and on the day by phoning at 8am. Our Nurse Practitioner can refer, request many investigations and prescribe.                              

If you are unsure please ask our Reception team who will try their best to advise you who to see.

The Nurse Practitioner is available Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday  8.00am - 6.00pm  

STAR Service

From 6pm to 9.30pm (Monday to Friday) and 8am to 9.30pm (weekends and bank holidays), you can access the GP extended hours centres by telephoning 111. Patients with access to Systmonline will be able to book appointments online.

Telephone Appointments

Telephone consultations can be used to discuss the results of tests and investigations and any other advice where an examination is not required. Please contact the surgery to book the consultation. The doctor will telephone you on your chosen contact number at the end of surgery.

Please inform us as soon as possible if you are unable to keep your appointment so that it can be allocated to someone else.

Persistent failure to attend appointments without notification will result in the patient being removed from our list.
